As we know we achieved Pakistan after a lot of sacrifices.
This country is a gift of God. The system to run the affairs of the
country is democracy which is considered to bL'lht U¢st system
available in the world today. Although there df c some
objections but it is far better than other systems. Elections are a
part and parcel of this system. Fair and free eluclions are a
gw?ntee of a prosperous country. Last year was the year of

media created election mania in the country. On every channel,
there were political experts giving their views about the results
of elections. Corner meetings were being held in every town
and city of the country. The candidates were delivering fiery
speeches and promising a better future for their voters.
The elections for National Assembly and Provincial
Assemblies were going to be held at the same day. Every voter
was to give two votes. There were banners and sign boards
everywhere. Attractive slogans and catch words cold be seen
everywhere. In the evesing, rallies and meetings were held. The
voters of all the political parties were chanting slogans. There
were some incidents of firing which created panic but the law-
enforcement agencies took prompt action and the miscreants
were arrested.
The members of National Assembly and the provincial
Assembly are called law-makers but in their speeches they were
not mentioning their duties as a law-maker. Their main focus was
on different kinds of promises. Most of the promises were about
the availability of clean drinking water, Sui gas, construction of
roads and jobs.
Such practice is very common in our country. Some
candidates bribe the voters and buy their votes. In the rural
areas, the people votes on the basis of their caste, creed and
community ; this is totally different from the soul of democracy.
The Election Day is very tense day both for the voters and
the candidates. The people did not hesitate to kill others to win
the election. Rigging is also a common problem which can be
solved by using the latest technology.
If we want to take benefit from the democracy, we shall
have to make our literacy rate better. In this way, the people will
vote for the right candidate and our country will be able to make
progress by leaps and bounds.
