An Article:
An article is a word that is used with a noun to indicate the type of reference being made by the noun.
An article is usually considered to be a type of adjective.
"The" "a" or "an" are the articles in the English language.
There are two types of the Articles
1- The Definite Article 2- The indefinite article
Its uses"the" is the definite article. Its
used are explained blew.
The is used to point out or refer to a noun.
The student sitting there is my friend.
Where the oranges I had brought?
- "The" is placed before a single noun where it represents its complete class.
Example:
The hare runs fast.
The hare runs fast.
The elephant is not as dangerous as the lion.
We like the mango. The potato is exported by us.
Note:
- We do not place the before man and woman where the represent the whole class.
Example:
Woman is Strong in the head and heart.
Woman is Strong in the head and heart.
Man is not so happy today.
Note:
It mean: all men and all women are not happy today. Man represent the whole race.
When man and woman are used together, they refer to their
sexes:
Don’t think man is wiser than women.
- The is placed before an adjective of quality like honest, poor, proud etc. to give it the meaning of a noun in the plural number.
Example:
The honest succeed in the long run.

It is the true, the hardworking and the faithful that take a
country to heights of glory.

- “The” is placed before an adjective in the third degree. It is not placed before a third-degree adverb when it is used alone. But “the” is placed before an adverb followed by a connected word.
Example:
The tallest building: The most useful person
The tallest building: The most useful person
She is the ablest teacher in our college.
- “The” cannot be used when an adjective in the superlative degree is preceded by a possessive pronoun.
Example:
Her greatest asset is knowledge, not beauty. He is our most beloved leader.

- “The” is used as an adverb in sentences like these:
Example:
The easier the question, the quicker the reply

The sooner you
come, the better it will be.
The greater the
height, the cooler the air.
- “The” is placed before the names of newspapers, books, ships, rivers, etc
Example:
The Nation, The News, The Travels of Marco Polo, The poems of Pleasure.

But when a proper noun alone is the title, “the” will not be
used:
I have read
“Ivanhoe” and “Tipu Sultan”
Qualities or abstract nouns as titles will generally not take “the”
Pride and Prejudiced
and Great Expectations
When “the” is implied in the title, “the” will not be used
“Dawn” has the largest circulation in Karachi.

- “The” is placed before words indicating directions and before heavily bodies that are in common use and are familiar to us:
the east, the
north, the south-west
But, a proper name
of a heavenly body will not take the definite article:
Saturn is
much larger than Venus. Mars made its closest approach to the earth in 60000
years in August 2013.
