A noun is the name of a person, place, thing, quality,
action, etc
Example:
Person: - father, manger,
Places: - the royal palace, restaurant, mosque,
Things: - Toyota, book, cement
Ideas: - unity, ability, determination,
Kinds\Types of Noun: -
There are the five kinds of noun.
Examples of nouns |
Proper noun: -
It is the name of a particular person, place, or thing.
Example:
USA,
London, Asia, Suzuki, Mars, Iceland, Hercules.
Common Noun: -
It is the name which is common to any person, place or thing
of same kind.
Example: -
Village, boy, car, country, theatre, platform, market,
square, tree, ocean.
Some nouns have plurals: - city-cities, village-villages
etc.
Some nouns do not have plurals: - sheep-sheep, deer-deer,
Collective or group noun:-
It is the name of a number of things or animals or persons
taken together. It is used as a common noun.
Example: -
Team,
army, nation, class, committee, fleet, bundle, flock, council, mob, crowd,
Material Noun
It is the name of material of which things are made.
Example: -
Silver, iron, wood, flour, milk, cement. (material like plastic,
wood and iron with which things of daily us are made, ,materials like butter,
flour, water, milk, and meat, with which foods are prepared and materials or chemicals
like tincture, chloride, and bromide with which medicine or industrial goods
are produced are all material noun.)
Abstract Noun: -
It is the name of quality, condition or action which cannot
be seen or felt through the five senses or which can be imagined or thought of.
Example: -
Foolishness, wisdom, understanding, strength, weakness,
child hood, quickness, slowness, etc.
Most of the material and abstract nouns are uncountable; who’s
plural can not be had. Uncountable noun is also called mass noun.
Group nouns can be take singular or plural verb and
pronouns:
The committee ha its meetings daily.
The jury sits in the room next to the court room.
