What is a library?
A library is a place where there is a big gathering of books.
Libraries are of two kinds community and isolated or Public and Private.
Some people are very fond of books and collect them to gratify
their thirst for information. They go to public libraries which are open to all and anybody can go
and read the books.
Some people like lawyers, chartered accountants, doctors, etc.,
have to consult many books in connection with their respective occupations. So,
they have to uphold a library of their own. These are private libraries.
Segments of a Library
Community libraries
have got two units generally. One is the reading-room unit and the other is the
issue section. In the reading-room varieties of newspapers, weeklies, and
monthly journals are placed on the tables. Anybody can go and recite them. A

catalog and get any book delivered for reading in the reading-room.

Library Essay In Other Words
Every college has a library where books on different topics are placed. These topics or subjects include science, literature fiction history, philosophy psychology, sociology, religion general knowledge, etc Both the teachers and the students visit the library regularly and quench their thirst for knowledge.
Our college has also a big library Its building consists of one large hall and two small rooms The library is managed by the librarian his assistant and one peon in the hall there are a number of bookshelves and cupboards in which books have been arranged alphabetically. In the center of the hall, three large tables are placed in a line with chairs around them. Teachers and students who come to the library sit there and read books, magazines, and newspapers of their choice. There is complete silence in the hall so that nobody's attention is distracted.
There is no doubt that a library is the center of knowledge. Every teacher and every student should go there regularly and consult books relating to their subjects, and according to their tastes and aptitudes, but unfortunately, most of the students go to the library just to read romantic novels and film magazines. The basic reason is not that their minds are polluted and perverse. the reason for their not using the library properly is that they are not properly guided. They do not know what types of books they should read to enhance their knowledge in a particular field. It should be the duty of the librarian to arrange lectures for the guidance of the students. They should be given knowledge on how they can use the library properly. They should be able to read the catalogs and choose for themselves the books of their interest.
Another thing that is lacking in our library is the computers. Today the importance of computers and the internet cannot be underestimated. The computer through the Internet is now the main source of knowledge and information. It covers less space but gives much knowledge. These days it has become much cheaper than books. The government should pay special and immediate attention to providing computers to all libraries.
