The Ideal Student
We cannot easily find a student perfect in all respects. Rather it is difficult to meet a person ideally good in any field of life. Who can say a perfect engineer or doctor or teacher or lawyer or mechanic? What we can at best do is to approach (get close to) perfection as students or workers in any field. The ideal student is, first of all truly religious. He obeys God and tries to follow his directions in every possible way. He is not only outwardly religious but inwardly pure. Secondly, the ideal student realizes his duties towards his family and others in society. He respects his elders and treats the young with love. He never misbehaves at home and does what his parents ask him to do. Outside the home, he co-operates with his neighbors and even strangers and tries to help them when they are in trouble. Thirdly, the ideal student tries to be good at students and games at the same timer. He listens to his lecture in school or at school or college attentively and reads his books at home dutifully. In the afternoon, he tries to play a game of his choice devotedly (with loving attention). The ideal girl student listens to the lectures of her teachers most attentively. She studies her subjects with the greatest effort. She does her household work like cooking and sewing in the best ways. She also tries to play a game of her choice. Fourthly, the ideal students never tell lies. He speaks the truth whether it is favorable to him or not. Perhaps speaking the truth is one of his greatest qualities. Fifthly, the ideal student loves his country dearly and is prepared to sacrifice his all for her. Rather he is ready to give his life should the nation demand so. He is a true patriot (love of his country). As far as possible, we should be like the ideal student. We should set an example of fine behavior and action to be followed by others.
It is said that a healthy mind needs a healthy body. But it is also true that to keep our body healthy we need a healthy mind and a healthy soul. An ideal student always keeps this fact in mind. He keeps his body neat and clean. His clothes may be simple but they are always tidy and reflective of his neat habits and polished taste. He gets up early in the morning and takes some physical exercise regularly. In his school or college, he takes part in games and sports. His diet is also healthful and balanced. He avoids smoking. He spends his leisure time in healthy activities. He does not live to eat but eats to live.
He pays full attention to the improvement of his mental abilities. He is, though, not a book worm he reads books on a variety of subjects. He reads them thoroughly. The purpose of his studies is not just to pass the examination but to seek and learn knowledge. He also helps his class
fellows in their studies and believes in the fact that knowledge increases when it
is spread. He keeps his books neat and clean. He attends his classes regularly
and does not waste his time in trivial conversion. He respects his teachers and never takes part in strikes and demonstrations. He avoids bad company and keeps himself away from dirty politics. He takes part in healthy extra-curricular activities.
An ideal student is also spiritually healthy and strong. He tries to fulfill both Haqooq Allah and Haqooq-ul-Abad. He is not a narrow-minded fanatic. He performs his religious duties to seek guidance from God and to please Him only. He never indulges in loose talk or gives bad names to others.
He respects his elders and loves his youngers. He does not waste his time or spoil his character by watching obscene films or listening to dirty songs.
A student who leads his life according to the above-mentioned rules succeeds in his life. He brings a good name to his family, his institution, and also to his country. He becomes a positive role model for others. His parents praise him. His friends follow in his footsteps. His teachers feel proud of him. Would that I were an ideal student!
